CIELO AZUL is an independent, non-religious and politically neutral non-governmental organization (NGO) working towards improving the living conditions of disadvantaged children and families in rural communities around Otavalo, Ecuador, South America. We focus on work within the educational sector, but also extends to a diverse range of small-scale community building projects.
The Ecuadorian government is currently reforming the school system in such a way that small schools are closing down and replaced by much larger regional schools. One of the schools we used to work with, Pijal Alto, is now closing. We would like to transform the school into a 'Pijal Alto Carpentry Workshop'. Once established the carpentry will be run by local carpenters.
Money raised in this event will specifically help towards the following two project:
Cielo Azul runs a scholarship scheme. A scholarship which covers school materials and school uniforms costs around 100 € annually and supports children as they continue their studies beyond primary school. The children who receive the scholarship are chosen by volunteers, the coordinators and school teachers according to the family’s financial means,
their family structure and the child's grades. Currently 89 children are supported by such scholarships.
